What is the CrossFit Open

The CrossFit Open is an annual online competition organized by CrossFit Headquarters. This year, it lasts for three weeks, during which participants from around the world complete a series of workouts, one per week, that are announced by CrossFit. These workouts are designed to test a wide range of fitness abilities, including strength, endurance, speed, and flexibility.

Participants perform the workouts at their local CrossFit gyms or other designated locations, and their scores are submitted online. The Open is open to anyone, regardless of fitness level, and participants can compete for fun or to qualify for further stages of competition, such as the CrossFit Games, which is the ultimate test of fitness in the CrossFit community.

The ENTIRE WORLD OF CROSSFIT doing the SAME workout! Isn’t that cool?

How does each workout get released?

Each workout in the CrossFit Open is typically announced online by CrossFit HQ, along with a demonstration by a CrossFit athlete. The workouts are designed to be accessible to a wide range of participants, from beginners to elite athletes, and often include a variety of movements and time domains.

Participants have a set amount of time to complete each workout and must adhere to the movement standards specified by CrossFit. (ie. squat all the way down and all the way up) After completing the workout, participants submit their scores online, either by video or by entering their score on the CrossFit Games website.

Workouts can include a variety of movements, such as weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardio exercises, and are designed to test different aspects of fitness. Some workouts may be for time, where participants complete the workout as quickly as possible, while others may be for max weight or max reps, where participants try to lift as much weight or complete as many reps as possible within a set time frame.

Is it beginner friendly?

Yes, the CrossFit Open is beginner-friendly! One of the great things about the Open is that it is open to participants of all fitness levels, from beginners to elite athletes. The workouts are designed to be scalable, meaning that they can be adjusted to suit each individual's abilities.

For example, if a workout includes a movement that is too difficult for a beginner, they can often scale it down to a simpler movement that targets the same muscle groups. Additionally, the Open is a great way for beginners to get a taste of competitive CrossFit in a supportive and inclusive environment.
